MICHALIS GEORGIADES

Michael Georgiades was born in 1956 in the now illegally occupied by the Turks, municipality of Morphou. After graduating from Morphou’s Lyceum in 1974 he settled in Nicosia and started working at the Cyprus Broadcast Station as a cameraman and editor for ten years.

​

In 1988 he co founded LUMIERE and LTV, the first private cable network in Cyprus and worked at the company as a director for ten years.

​

From 2000 until 2012 he was the General Manager of the Film Production Company Mediabox LTD.

 

In 2012 he founded Michaelangelo Cinematographic Services LTD, a well established Film and Commercial Production Company, which offers top services around Cyprus, Middle East and Europe.

 

Many of his commercial and short film projects have been awarded  and distinguished around the world.

 

He is also a professional photographer and Photography Critic. He is a co founder member of the Photographic Club “Fotodos” and participated in many group photography exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad.

​

He exhibited his personal photography collection along with Anna Maragou titled “ Edo Dipla”.

He also published a photography album of the occupied Cyprus titled “Apopsi Gis” as well as a photography album of the occupied Morphou.

Michael Georgiades No Turkish soldiers

Michael Georgiades, a Greek speaking Cypriot, shows Euronews reporter Hans von der Brelie a mud-brick house in northern Cyprus: at the age of 18, Michael and his family fled Morphou. Today, the town is called Güzelyurt by the Turkish speaking Cypriots living here. Michael wants his property back, not just the house, but also his father’s huge orange orchards nearby Morphou. The region is under (internationally not recognised) Turkish Cypriot administration. Property has been at the core of the recent negotiations between Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci. Both exchanged maps – for the first time in history – outlining the future borders of a future federation. But Morphou seems still to be a major stumbling block: will Morphou be handed back to Greek administration or not? How many refugees (having left the citiy in 1974) want to come back? Who pays for rehousing and/or financial compensation? What will sustain the economy? What will happen to the estimated 30,000 to 40,000 Turkish soldiers based in the northern part of the split island?
